Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Final Chapter

Level 15 (Blinds 2,000/4,000/500)
Total Entries: 250

Players have returned from the final break, and they will finish up Level 15 before bagging chips for Day 2 on Monday.  Going into the final level, Justin Liberto leads the way with 545,000.  With 10:00 minutes remaining on the clock, the tournament floor will pause the clock and announce how many hands remain in the night.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): In Contention

Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Entries: 248

Here are the top five stacks going into the final break:

Tom B - 515,000
Frank Loffreno - 415,000
Mike Sandler - 400,000
Justin Liberto - 400,000
Vinny Longo - 390,000

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Watch Out For Liberto

Level 14 (Blinds 1,500/3,000/400)
Total Entries: 248

There are certain times that a tournament professional will have a run over weeks/months where they seemingly go deep in every event they play.  Justin Liberto felt primed going into Big Stax 300, and he proceeded to chop the event with Alex Queen.  He's once again putting himself in solid position going into the end of the night, just winning a pot bring him over 330,000.  Liberto is now in contention to bag the chip lead, and as the final level of the night creeps up, the big stacks will be posted.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Level Up

Level 14 is about to begin and blinds will be going up to 1,500/3,000/300 (248 total entries).  Joe Cutler, who was one of the earlier chip leaders mentioned, has just been eliminated by prior Big Stax event winner Mike Sandler.  Sandler won this event during Big Stax II, taking home over $50,000 for the win.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): After Hour Arrivals...And Departures

Total Entries: 248

Arrivals after Level 12:

Miguel Borrero
Laurence Wolf

Departures since Level 12:

Sean Wallace
Antonio Payne
Jonathan Sonne

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Trying To Run Away With It

Level 13 (Blinds 1,200/2,400/300)
Total Entries: 248

Frank Loffreno (Staten Island, NY)

Every time a glance is made over at Table 46, it seems as if Frank Loffreno is scooping up a pot.  He is the chip leader with only three levels left in the night, holding over 420,000.  His closest threat for the bonus hasn't crossed 300,000 yet, but things tend to change as the last minutes of Level 15 tick away.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Break Time

Players are going on another (15) minute break, and when they return to Level 13, the blinds will be going up to 1,200/2,400/300.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Ruffman Snags One

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Entries: 243

Ruthie Ruffman (Colts Neck, NJ) just picked up a pot worth over 100,000, and has surpassed the 200,000 mark with those chips.  Ruffman was faced with a 40,000 river bet on a nine high board (with Matt Glantz behind to act), and thought about it for a little before calling.  Glantz said he was going to snap call if she folded, but he found himself deep in thought as well.  He decided not to overcall, and when Ruthie flipped over K 9 (top pair) for the win (opponent missed straight draw), found out it was the wrong decision.  Glantz said he folded the winning hand, but he still sits with an average chip stack.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Tables Breaking, Glantz Chipping Up

Level 12 (Blinds 1,000/2,000/300)
Total Entries: 241

Less than 100 active players remain in the Day 1A field, as tables continue to break towards the back of the room.  Parx Poker Ambassador Matt Glantz sends a player to the rail, and now has over 140,000.  Justin Liberto (Baltimore, MD) is working towards bagging chip on one bullet, as he is over 220,000.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Action Abound

Level 12 is about to start, with blinds going up to 1,000/2,000/300 (239 total entries).  The action has been busy over the past (30 minutes), with two new players putting themselves in contention for the chip lead bonus.  Frank Loffreno (Staten Island, NY) has 285,000, and not too far behind him sits Joe Cutler (Marlton, NJ) at 258,000.

Joe Palma (Bensalem, PA) re-entered moments ago and was sat right in the big blind.  He jammed over a raise (and a call), and doubled through Andrew Zhu first hand back.

Joe Palma - 85,000
Andrew Zhu - 65,000

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): The New Happy Hour

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Entries: 238

Some people like to grab drinks with colleagues after work, others jump in the Big Stax 500:

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Level Up/Chip Leader

Level 11 (Blinds 800/1,600/200)
Total Entries: 237

Vinny Longo (East Hanover, NJ)

11 is about to begin, with the blinds going up to 800/1,600/200 (237 total entries).  We have two players separating themselves from the field with over 240,000.  Vinny Longo (East Hanover, NJ) has 280,000, while Mike Goldberg sits on a stack just over 240,000.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Maio Doubles

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Entries: 234

Anthony Maio (Jamison, PA) has already kicked off this year with a WPT final table at the Borgata.   He arrived shortly before players went on dinner break, and since returning has doubled to over 60,000.  He was below the starting stack, but his AK found an ace on the flop against pocket kings.  He's still looking for his first cash at Parx, but his 25 recorded cashes for over $475,000 bolster any resume.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Back From Dinner

Level 10 (Blinds 600/1,200/200)
Total Entries: 227

Players have returned from dinner and cards are once again in the air.  Day 1A play will last until the end of Level 15, and the players remaining will then bag chips for Day 2.  Of the three different players to bag the chip lead in the Big Stax 300, only Staffan Lind (Vero Beach, FL) was able to make a deep run (final table).

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Dinner Break

Players are now going on a (75) minute dinner break.  The action and live coverage will resume at approximately 7:35pm.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Counts Before Dinner

Level 9 (Blinds 500/1,000/100)
Total Entries: 216

There are a handful of players starting to build sizable stacks, with some notables going to dinner above average:

Gordon Eng - 125,000
Manh Nguyen - 120,000
Staffan Lind - 120,000
Joe Cappuccio - 117,000
Lana O'Brien - 110,000
Justin Liberto - 110,000
Matt Glantz - 95,000

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Last Level Before Dinner

Level 9 has just started with blinds going up to 500/1,000/100 (213 total entries).  Players will be going on a (75) minute dinner break at the conclusion of this level.   The outer tables are beginning to break as players are beginning to bust, with two active tables remaining outside of the tournament area.

Total Entries: 206

The action was picked up on the river at Table 50, in a hand between Patti Haggerty and Greg Himmelbrand.  The board read K10♠ 7♠ K♣ 5♠, and Patti put out a 10,000 bet on the river after Greg checked (pot was ~ 13,000).  Himmelbrand thought for a few moments before tossing in the call, and Patti would turn over A K.  Greg mucked and Patti takes down the pot and chips up to 65,000.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Blinds Going Up

Level 8 is about to begin, and the total number of entries has just reached 200.  The blinds are going up to 400/800/100.  The events are already in the book for Big Stax VI, and with results about to be posted, congrats are due:

Big Stax VI Series - Big Stax 300: Alex Queen ($67,404) and Justin Liberto ($61,974) chop
Big Stax VI Series -  PLO/NLH Mix: Keith Crowder ($5,525)
Big Stax VI Series - Deepstack Turbo: Joe Palma ($11,059)

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Still Arriving

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Entries: 195

Players continue to arrive on their first bullet, as Izzet Temel takes his seat at Table 45.  Izzet had a dream series this past February as he final tabled two Big Stax events in the same series:

Big Stax V 300 - 1st Place ($69,943)
Big Stax V 1500 - 9th Place ($13,266)

Temel has gone on to cash in six more events in the three months since, and has his lifetime earnings above $125,000.  He is currently seated at the same table as Matt Glantz and Paul Spitzberg.

Joel Frank (Belle Mead, NJ) also just took his seat, coming off a final table a few days ago in the Big Stax 300.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Hiding Under The Hat

Level 7 (Blinds 300/600/100)
Total Entries: 190

Manh Nguyen (Munhall, PA) is an accomplished tournament player, with over $350,000 in career earnings.  Nguyen has 33 lifetimes cashes, but he is still looking for his first Big Stax finish in the money.  Manh is rocking the fedora today, so he wasn't recognizable at first.  He can no longer hide though as he is one of the chip leaders in the field with 145,000.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Big Stacks Going To Break

Players are going on their second (15) minute break of the day, and when they return the blinds will be going up to 300/600/100.  Three of the bigger stacks going to break belong to:

Joe Cappucio - 140,000
Jonathan Sonne - 130,000
James Boyle - 117,000

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Payne Doubles

Level 6 (Blinds 250/500/50)
Total Entries: 173

Antonio Payne (Hazlet, NJ) fell short of cashing the Big Stax 300, making a solid run after his recent success at the WSOPC (Harrah's Chester).  He found himself shortly early, but just got a double to 50,000 after his Q 10 > 3 3 on the 10 J 3 K 9 runout.  Payne rivered the straight to take down the pot, and looks now to bag chips on one bullet once again.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Level 6 Begins

Level 6 just started, with the blinds going up to 250/500/50 (172 total entries).  A handful of players have busted and re-entered, including Greg Himmelbrand, one of the players to chop the Big Stax 300 during Big Stax III.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Pooch Pushes Forward

Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Entries: 171

Joseph Cappuccio

Joseph Cappuccio (Hammonton, NJ) won this exact event just over two years ago during the inaugural Big Stax series.  He bested a final table that included David Black, Gordon Eng, Michael Sandler, and Kevin Lutz.  Cappuccio took home $40,818 for the win, which is his biggest live score of the 33 recorded cashes he has.

Cappuccio is off to a good start today, as he has over 110,000.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Sonne Is Shining

Level 5 (Blinds 200/400/50)
Total Entries: 170

The action was picked up on flop at Table 35.  With 10,000 in the pot already, and a flop of J 10 4♠, Satish Surapaneni was all-in for 75,000.  Two players were to act, one of which was Jonathan Sonne, a Parx cash game regular (10/10 NL).  After the player on the button folded, Sonne would make the call for less, and the two hands would be tabled.  Sonne's 10♣ 10♠ would have the 9 2 of Satish drawing dead after a J♠ on the turn.

Jonathan would more than double up to 95,000, while Satish drops down to below the original starting stack.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Level Up

Level 5 started just minutes ago, and the blinds went up to 200/400/50 (166 total entries).  Just a reminder once more, the chip leader at the end of tonight's play will receive a $1,500 bonus.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Ahead Of Pace

Level 4 (Blinds 150/300/50)
Total Entries: 163

In February of this year, the Big Stax series reached a point that not many saw coming.  The Big Stax 300 (over 1,800 entries) and 500 (over 800 entries) both saw record fields, and it was clear that the tournaments put their stamps on the poker community.  As of right now, with 165 total entries at this point in Day 1A, the pace is way ahead of February.  More players continue to enter/re-enter at a steady pace, with Allison Schultz and Jonas Wexler the most recent to walk over.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): New Neighbors

Level 4 (Blinds 75/150/50)
Total Entries: 154

Justin Liberto & Matt Glantz

As the field continues to grow larger, more notables find their way to their seats.  First to arrive at Table 45 was Parx Poker Ambassador Matt Glantz, and only moments later Big Stax 300 winner Justin Liberto (Baltimore, MD) took his seat to Matt's direct right.

Also new to the field:

Sean Wallace
Igor Rabinovich
Jonathan Sonne
Andrew Zhu

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): First Break

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Entries: 137

Players are going on their first break of the day, and when they return to Level 4, the blinds will be 150/300/50.  The outer tables continue to fill up with more notables:

Antonio Payne
Valerie Novak
Satish Supareneni
Marguerite Spagnuolo
Joseph Cappuccio
Patti Haggerty

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Off To A Quick Start

Level 3 (Blinds 100/200/25)
Total Entries: 123

Frank Conti (Staten Island, NY) has wasted no time building his stack, and already has over 100,000 in front of him.  Conti finished off 2013 in strong fashion, winning his first WSOPC ring at Harrah's Atlantic City ($365 Six-Max).  Conti does not yet have a recorded cash in 2014, but of his 11 cashes lifetime, six of them are final tables.

Some of the players from the Big Stax 300 final table have taken their seats:

Staffan Lind
Michael Wang

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Level Going Up

Level 3 is about to begin, with blinds going up to 100/200/25 (108 total entries).  More players to sit down to the 40,000 starting stack include:

Dave Inselberg
Michael Goldberg
Alan Kraut
Frank Ferrigno
Steven Sarmiento

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Outer Tables Opening

Level 2 (Blinds 75/150)
Total Entries: 101

With the tournament area filling up, players are starting to be seated at the outer tables (cash game tables) of the poker room.  Table 33 is the first to open outside of the tournament area, and even though the table has five people, it's one of the tougher in the room:

Greg Himmelbrand
Brian Lemke
Jeffrey Spence

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Bonus Reminder/Level Up

Level 2 is about to begin, and new players continue to take their seats, including Eric Siegel, Christopher Kusha, James Boyle, and Alex Bolotin.  Players will  be posting blinds of 75/150 in Level 2, and the entire field will be chasing the $1,500 bonus for the end of day chip leader.  That bonus will be rewarded each of the three starting days.

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Today's Lineup

Level 1 (Blinds 50/100)

Because of an event in the clubhouse room, players in this Day 1A field are in the main poker room (tournament area).  There are currently 77 total entries posted on the board, and here are some of the notables who make up today's field:

Nancy Martin
Keith DeAngelis
Gordon Eng
Nancy Martin
Ray Ross
Frank Conti
Lana O'Brien

Big Stax 500 (Day 1A): Early Birds Roll In

Level 1 (Blinds 50/100)

Players are beginning to file into the main poker room, as the cards will be in the air in moments.  It's a little early in the poker world, but the Twitter roll call is already underway:
